Lake Sailing Regatta

| Europe’s largest and most important sailing regatta with more than 500 boats in competition The Rolex Bol d’Or is an annual event. The Societe Nautique de Geneve, hosts this event and the regatta (competition) has received increased attention on the world stage since the Swiss team took the cup in 2004.

| During Christmas Geneva goes retro to bring back some good old fashioned Christmas festivities to the city during the cold winters. Fusterie Square
plays host to The International Christmas Market which displays hand made folk arts and crafts from throughout Switzerland as well as numerous food stalls, all beautifully exhibited in picturesque miniature wooden chalets along the main shopping street.
Free Open Air Skating is available at Place du Rhone. The annual Christmas Tree Festival is an exceptional event presenting a range of trees and sculptures designed by renowned international artists put on for a display throughout the city. Last but not the least for those of you who are very adventurous, there is the annual Christmas Swimming Cup. This mid-December event draws hundreds of swimmers who brave the icy waters to race from the Jardin Anglais to the Quai General Guisan.

L’Escalade

| Be a part of this week long popular 5 mile foot-race for all ages through the Old town which culminates the following weekend with a torchlight procession of people dressed in period costumes. This festival commemorates the triumphant victory of the city against the 1602 invasion when the people of Geneva demonstrated against the Duke of Savoy and his mercenary group. | For children or those who are yet young at heart, this ancient winter carnival is a masquerade that bids adieu to winter and the welcomes spring. Mask making for the first two days leads to the grand finale of the festival: a magnificent carnival procession starting from the Bridge of Bergues, passing through the streets of Geneva until the stroke of midnight when the revelers scream a collective and final great goodbye to winter.
